Our heartfelt congratulations to Professor Yizhou Yu for the conferment of Chair Professor title by The University of Hong Kong. As stated in the President's letter, a Chair Professor title is reserved for world-class scholars of distinction, and it signifies due recognition of outstanding academic leadership and excellence.
Professor Yu joined the Department of Computer Science at HKU in 2010, and was promoted to Full Professor with tenure in 2012. He has been named ACM Distinguished Member and IEEE Fellow in 2018, and ACM Fellow of 2022.
Professor Yu has made important contributions to AI and visual computing, including deep learning, computer vision, image processing, medical image analysis, graphics, VR/AR, and machine learning. He served as the Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence (2023-present) / Image Processing (20222-present) / Visualization and Computer Graphics (2014-2018) and The Visual Computer (2009-2012). He also served as Program Chair and Area Chair for many international conferences.
Our Department takes immense pride in Professor Yu for his achievements, and contributions made to the University. Congratulations again to Professor Yu for this well-deserved honor!
