Dr. Liu earned a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Hong Kong, an MS from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a PhD from HKU. Before returning to HKU as a lecturer in 2025, he worked for over ten years in the bioinformatics industry as a researcher, software engineer, and project manager. As a student, he was a top competitor in international programming contests including the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) and the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC).
