The Multimedia Laboratory was established jointly by the department of Computer Science (CS) and the department of Music in 2004. It is established in response to the urgently needed development of creative media skills in Hong Kong as well as mainland China, which look toward Hong Kong as its source for knowledge and skills, e.g. skills for film and video industries, advertising, and music production.

Aim

Provide multiple avenues for learning, using, and development of video and audio processing, editing, web technologies, design and multimedia technologies.
To provide a comfortable environment for multimedia authoring, instruction, and research and development of multimedia technologies.

The departments of CS and Music offer courses relating to multimedia for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Currently enrolled students in Multimedia courses come from different faculties, distributed across many departments. Holder of access cards can enjoy the facilities in the Lab 24 hours a day.

Environment

The darkened walls in neutral colors avoid stray light reflections
to aid filming and display or print in correct color.
Acoustic panels on walls reduce reverberation in the lab.
A chroma screen is available for video compositing.
There is also spacious desktop for work and creative activities.
