Dr. David Cheung received HK$9.2 Million from ITC Guangdong - Hong Kong Technology Cooperation Funding Scheme (TCFS) for E-transaction Enabling Technologies Development

HKSAR Government's Innovation and Technology Commission is funding HK$9.2M to the Center for E-Commerce Infrastructure Development of the Computer Science Department for a new project, "Service Oriented e-Transaction Platform", under the Guangdong - Hong Kong Technology Cooperation Funding Scheme. Dr. David Cheung, Head of the Department and Director of CECID, is the Coordinator and Principal Investigator of the project. Sponsors of the project, Microsoft (Hong Kong), Digital Trade and Transportation Network (DTTN), MTR Corporation and iASPEC Opensoft Shenzhen, are providing an additional HK$1.2M cash support. Duration of the project is 24 months starting 1 March 2006.

Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is a new enterprise application architecture concept in which business functions are implemented and delivered as services on the network. Enterprise applications are integrated through using the services provided by each other in standard interfaces, typically in the Web Services standards such as SOAP, WSDL, and UDDI. However, there are new requirements for processing cross-enterprise transactions with trading partners that current SOA does not explicitly address. The project aims to research and develop a software platform to facilitate enterprises to design and implement service oriented applications to transact with trading partners based on key business-to-business (B2B) standards.
