PhD Candidate Yuxiang Yang Receives 2017 Microsoft Research Asia Fellowship Award

Mr. Yuxiang Yang, a PhD candidate of the Department of Computer Science at HKU, was awarded the 2017 Microsoft Research Asia Fellowship.

The Microsoft Research Asia Fellowship Program aims to empower and encourage PhD students in the Asia-Pacific region to realize their potential in computer science-related research.

This year, 107 PhD candidates from 38 research universities or institutions in mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and Singapore compete for the 10 fellowship awards. Besides receiving a cash award for supporting research initiatives and academic endeavors, each awardee will be provided with a 3-month visiting research opportunity during which he/she will be doing research at a top international research institute under the guidance of an experienced researcher.

Yuxiang is currently working on his PhD thesis under the co-supervision of Dr Giulio Chiribella and Professor Francis Lau. He also received the HKU Computer Science Postgraduate Scholarship in 2015-16.
