HKIE Engineering Graduate Training Scheme "A"
In a letter dated 15 February 2006, the Chairman of the Training Committe of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) informed Professor Lap-Chee Tsui, Vice-Chancellor of The University of Hong Kong (HKU) that

The Training Committee of HKIE approved that the graduates of the following degree programmes offered by HKU are eligible for registration onto Scheme "A" Training in the corresponding discipline.
- BEng (Hons) Degree in Software Engineering (Full Time and Sandwich) is eligible for Scheme "A" in Information Discipline.
- BEng (Hons) Degree in Software Engineering (Full Time and Sandwich) under the 4-year double degree of BBA (Hons) in Information Systems and BEng (Hons) in Software Engineering is eligible for Scheme "A" in Information Discipline.

HKIE is a member of the Washington Accord, which caters for the mutual recognition of first degrees in engineering. A Corporate Member of HKIE is a recognized professional engineer. To qualify as a Corporate Member in the Information Discipline, an honours graduate of the above programmes must have attained the age of 25 and have relevant training and experience. Under the formal training route (known as Scheme "A" Training), candidates are required to have two years of pre-approved formal training followed by two years of responsible experience. Under the general experience route, candidates without pre-approved training are required to have a minimum of five years of general experience followed by one year of responsible experience.
