The Second Workshop on Grid Technologies and Applications (WoGTA'05), Hualien, Taiwan, 7-8 December 2005

Title: The Grid as a Parallel Computer

Abstract: In this talk, I will discuss the latest trends of aggregating physically disjoint resources to form a large computing platform, of which the "grid" appears to be the one that is drawing the most attention. I will contrast the grid with other approaches, and suggest what might be the ultimate grid in the future. As an example of research effort towards realizing that future picture of grid computing, I will present an ongoing project that targets at transforming a grid into a large, powerful parallel computer. I will conclude with some suggestions on possible further work to add to the features and attractiveness of this powerful parallel computer.
