Title: Content and Code Adaptation for Small-Device Computing

Abstract: The new millennium has brought in a new order in computing, one that is based on small, mostly mobile devices. The proliferation of these devices is tipping the balance between hardware and software, and all of a sudden, software development seems to be lagging seriously behind. It appeared to us that a major change is necessary in the way software is produced for and used by small devices; and so is a paradigm shift in the programming methodology in composing such software. Among the many issues, we zeroed in on dynamic content and code adaptation. In this talk, we will present our approaches to content and code adaptation for mobile computing and implementation results and experiences that we feel could provide some useful insights for our further development or similar pursuits by others. We will highlight architectural aspects of our design that are related to parallel and distributed computing.
