Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I choose SE programme at CS Department of HKU?
This is Hong Kong's first and only one undergraduate programme in Software Engineering. The demand of SE graduates is well anticipated, as the Final Report of the Chief Executive's Commission on Innovation and Technology once states: "We have envisaged that Hong Kong could become a leading city in the world for the application and development of IT, especially in Internet, E-commerce, and Software Engineering."

What is Industrial Training?
It is a "hands-on" component of our undergraduate SE curriculum, also known as internship, taking place usually in your second summer. It allows you to work full-time in industry as trainee software engineers. Our programme features two types of internships: Summer Internships (6-12 weeks) and Sandwich Internships (12-14 months).

How long is the programme?
Normally 3 years full-time. But if you opt to sandwich internship that spends you a year in industry, you will then need 4 years to graduate.
