Hour of Code x HKU MakerLab - 3D Printing Robot Workshop
Thirty primary 4 to secondary 1 students from Lok Sin Tong Leung Wong Wai Fong Memorial School and Cotton Spinners Association Secondary School were having great fun building and controlling their own DIY TortoBot at a workshop on April 1, 2017 at HKU which was co-sponsored by HKU CS Technology Engagement Programme (TEP) and Hour of Code HK (HOCHK).
At the workshop, students first built the DIY TortoBot, a 3D printed turtle robot, then used AppInventor to program an app to remote control the turtle. TortoBot is a simple robot specially designed by the HKUCS MakerLab for junior students to get to experience 3D printing, robotics and coding in a 3-hour workshop.
This workshop was organized by two staff from HKU CS Department, Dr Loretta Choi and Mr. David Lee, and two BBA(IS)/BEng(CS) Year 1 students, Matthew Tsui and Grayson Ho who are also volunteers of HOCHK, with the assistance from two BEng Year 1 student helpers, Amos Yau and Lam Tim Po.
This collaboration with Hour of Code HK also provides an opportunity for training university students to deliver similar maker/coding workshops for the benefits of a broader audience and the community.
