KE Talk on Credit Card-Sized Computers
Dr. Beta C.L. Yip and Dr. Ivy K.Y. Wong presented a talk on "Introduction to credit card-sized computers” on October 31, 2015 which introduced the basics of credit card-sized computers, such as Raspberry Pi and Arduino. Representatives from RS Components Ltd. were also invited as guest speakers to introduce the application of credit card-sized computers with live demonstrations. Through this talk, participants were able to have a better understanding of what credit card-sized computers are, and to gain some hands-on experience on interacting with products made with these credit card-sized computers.
This talk is part of the “Programming Creations for Schools” project which is led by Professor Francis Lau and funded by the HKU Knowledge Exchange Fund. Under the same project, over 150 teachers and students from various primary, secondary and international schools have registered for the “Invention for Schools Contest” organized by the Faculty of Engineering. The contestants are required to make an invention using low-cost credit card-sized computers, such as Raspberry Pi and Arduino, that can be used in schools. A series of talk will also be conducted to enhance participants’ understanding of credit card-sized computers.
