HKUCS and HKBWS Jointly Develop Mobile App "HKcBirds: Common Birds of Hong Kong"

Dr YIP Chi Lap, Beta and Dr WONG Ka Yan, Ivy of the Department of Computer Science at HKU designed Hong Kong's first cross-platform bird information mobile app "HKcBirds: Common Birds of Hong Kong" and jointly developed it with the Hong Kong Bird Watching Society. This app was under a project titled "Birds of Hong Kong in Your Hands" supported by the HKU Knowledge Exchange Fund.

This project aims at sharing technologies developed by our Department with a Non-Government Organization (NGO) for the good of the public, and at the same time contributing to bird conservation and ornithology. The app allows mobile device users in Hong Kong and worldwide to access multimedia information about Hong Kong birds for free.

An app launch ceremony was held on April 11, 2014, and the app is now available for free in both App Store and Google Play.
