Professor Tak-Wah Lam Receives HKU Outstanding Research Student Supervisor Award

Professor Tak-Wah Lam has been selected for the HKU Outstanding Research Student Supervisor Award in 2008-09. This award is to accord recognition to supervisors of research postgraduate students who, through their highly effective supervisory guidance, have particularly benefitted their students in the pursuit of research excellence. This award is open to teachers of all grades in HKU who have served as supervisors of research postgraduate students.

Besides the title and a certificate, Professor Lam will also receive a monetary award for furthering his research, and one research postgraduate studentship quota. His research interest is in the areas of data streams algorithms, compressed indexing and online scheduling.

Professor Lam was one of the founding teaching staff when our Department was formally established under the Faculty of Engineering in 1988. Among our research postgraduates, 11 MPhil and 8 PhD were supervised by him. Currently, he is supervising 3 MPhil and 2 PhD research students. Professor Lam is also a frequent winner of Teaching Excellence Awards at both departmental and faculty levels.
