HKU Grid Point Begins Operation
As part of the China National Grid (CNGrid), the HKU Grid Point became "officially" operational on December 16, 2005 when experts and officers from Mainland China unanimously voted for its acceptance prior to a formal launch ceremony. The HKU Grid Point is powered by the Systems Research Group's Gideon 300 Cluster. The HKU Grid Point is one of the 8 grid nodes of the CNGrid, and the only one outside of Mainland China. Other than serving for the CNGrid, the HKU Grid Point also acts as a gateway between the Mainland and computer services and resources in the Asia-Pacific Grid (APGrid) of which HKU is an active participant. The HKU Grid Point project is supervised by Drs F.C.M. Lau and C.L. Wang.
