Hong Kong Institution of Engineers Grants Full Accreditation to BEng(SE) Degrees

In a letter dated 3 June 2005, the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers wrote to Professor Lap-Chee Tsui, Vice-Chancellor of The University of Hong Kong, announcing the decision by the HKIE Accreditation Board that

1. The University of Hong Kong be granted full accreditation for the BEng (Hons) degree in Software Engineering, and
2. The University of Hong Kong be granted full accreditation for the BEng (Hons) degree in Software Engineering under the four-year double degree of BBA in Information Systems and BEng degree in Software Engineering.

As a result, graduates of both degree programmes will be fully recognized by the HKIE as professional engineers after the relevant training and experience.

The Visiting Team members were of the view that both BEng(SE) degrees provide students with a high quality engineering programme. There was excellent leadership in the Department, and the academic staff were qualified and enthusiastic. The students were highly motivated and very supportive of the programmes. The facilities were good.
